Course Description
This course, structured around workshops, introduces students to the key components of both research proposals and theses through the use of templates. It encourages logical thinking and academic writing.
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Understand processes of proposal, journal article and thesis writing.
- Develop advanced research skills.
- Gain skills and concepts in writing proposal and defended theses.
- Develop logical and critical thinking habits.
Course Contents
Unit I: Foundation of Research Writing (9 Hours)
- Summarizing, Paraphrasing, Quoting, and Framing
- Research Mechanics (Paging, In-Text Citation, Works Cited entries, etc.)
- Library visit and Online Resources
Unit II: Selecting the Primary Text(s) and Finding a Topic (9 Hours)
- Purpose and Scope of Master's Thesis
- Exploring area of interest and selecting primary text
- Research ethics and academic integrity
Unit III: Process of Writing a Master's Thesis Proposal (12 Hours)
- Introduction to a proposal (Literature review, Statement of problem, Hypothesis, Methodology, Plan of thesis)
Unit IV: Process of Writing a Master's Thesis (12 Hours)
- Detailed structure of Master's Thesis: Chapter I (Introduction), Chapter II (Methodology), Chapter IV (Textual analysis), Chapter V (Conclusion)
Unit V: Revision, Editing, and Presentation (6 Hours)
- Revising for structure, editing and proofreading, presenting the article, preparing for the Viva Voce
